After a few years of hibernation, the California Golden Bearathlon has roared back to life at the Berkeley Marina to host three successful races in the past three years. After impressive attendance year after year, we are prepared to host a thirteenth USAT-sanctioned event in the same location on October 30, 2022. Bearathlon takes place at Berkeley’s marina, which protrudes into the San Francisco Bay and offers an ideal situation for both racers and spectators alike. It is secluded from traffic and offers unparalleled views of San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Bay Bridge and the Berkeley Hills. Additionally, the marina offers a sheltered cove for safe open water swimming, a hotel to accommodate out-of-town racers, and a design that is incredibly spectator friendly. The race course is beginner-friendly and we welcome athletes of all levels, from new triathletes to some of the top collegiate racers in the country!
Draft Legal Sprint~
The Collegiate Classic Sprint triathlon combines a 750 meter swim, a 5-looped 20 kilometer bike, and a 2-looped 5 kilometer run. This is a non-drafting event
- To sign up for this event, participants must be university students and members of a collegiate triathlon club.
- Waves are capped at 40 participants.
- There will be no limit to the number of athletes that a collegiate team may bring. Registration is first-come, first-served.
Open Classic Sprint~
The Open Classic Sprint triathlon combines a 750 meter swim, a 5-looped 20 kilometer bike, and a 2-looped 5 kilometer run. This is a non-drafting event.
- The Open Classic sprint is intended for community triathletes of all ages; collegiate racers are encouraged to register for the Collegiate Classic Sprint.
- Waves are capped at 40 participants.
- Registration is first come, first served.
Mixed Team Relay (USAT Draft-Legal Rules):
Bearathlon’s first ever Mixed Team Relay will be a thrilling event that combines individual efforts with team spirit. Each team will consist of 4 individuals (2 female, 2 male) and each team member will complete a full super sprint triathlon (see distances above) before tagging off to a teammate, in the order female-male-female-male.
The event will follow USAT Draft-legal rules, which means the race has a highly competitive format for experienced triathletes. For more information about the rules of Draft-Legal racing, please see the following links:
